It’s the season of Star Wars, and the harvest is rich. In the excitement leading up to The Force Awakens, Star Wars is everywhere, including the realm of board games. The Force Awakens X-Wing Miniatures Game Core Set is currently the only Episode VII product available in the board game world right now, and it just dropped down to $25 on Amazon. It’s true, the original X-Wing Core Set has been sitting at that price for a while (currently $26 with Prime shipping), but The Force Awakens Set is practically brand new, and is a great way to build up hype if you’re counting down days to the movie. Prior to the markdown, the game was retailing on Amazon for about $32-34.
This is a great deal for all kinds of audiences. If you’re already into X-Wing, this is a no-brainer. If you’re a big Star Wars fan that’s never played it, the game does a fantastic job at capturing the “feel” of Star Wars on a tabletop, and will most likely satisfy anyone who just wants more Star Wars in their lives. Despite being a miniatures game, X-Wing is extremely easy to pick up; the rules are actually very simple and the game can be taught in ten minutes or so. If you’re itching to try something out that will satisfy your inner Star Wars cravings that’s also cheap, this is a great deal. For super casual players, the game can be pretty fun as-is, but this is a miniatures game, and you’ll get a whole lot more out of it by buying more ships. Just don’t blame me if you end up in an unstoppable spiral of additional X-Wing purchases, because the temptation is strong.
Anyway, I’m not sure whether the set will remain this low (it is, after all, the going-price of the older core set), but it’s a great price and I can vouch for the excellency of the game.
